Cardiff faces a potential 18 months transfer ban over payment dispute with Nantes. The welsh Club now has to pay the first installment of Sala’s transfer fee, which is just under 5.2 million Pounds, within 45 days.

Cardiff city is now facing a three window transfer ban till they pay the first installment of transfer fee for Emiliano Sala to Nantes.

This Argentinean died at the age of 28 years during a plane crash into the English Channel on 21st January of this year. He was travelling in a light aircraft from France to the United Kingdom, when the airplane crashed, resulting in his death.

No amicable conclusion could be reached by Cardiff and Nantes on the financial aspects of this move. This case was then put before the player’s status committee of world governing body FIFA.

FIFA announced on September 30th that Cardiff has been ordered to pay the first installment of the transfer fee of Sala. This amounts to Six Million Euros or just under 5.2 million Pounds.

The related documents were published on Thursday which detailed the grounds for this decision. It shows that if Cardiff failed to pay the fee within 45 days of receiving bank details from Nantes, the ruling would mean ban on Cardiff on registering new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amounts are paid and this ban is going to be imposed for the maximum duration of three entire and consecutive registration periods.

It is understood that the countdown to the imposition of a three window ban would stop if Cardiff formally lodges an appeal against the decision made by Player’s Status Committee, with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The club officials have previously indicated that they would lodge the appeal.
